Our ReSolve program has tested various methods to treat PFAS-contaminated soil and water. Rather than putting a Band-Aid on the problem, we are committed to developing long-term, sustainable solutions.

Our toolbox consists of solutions we currently deploy to manage and treat PFAS challenges, as well as solutions in development our R&D team are validating for future use.

Solutions for PFAS-Contaminated water.

Water treatment plant

PFAS have a high affinity for water and often have a final resting place in water, snow, and rain. For this reason, ReSolve can offer various solutions to treat PFAS-contaminated water.

Foam Fractionation

Using air to create a stream of fine bubbles that rise within a contained space, the bubbles capture PFAS, producing a foam that rises to the top for collection. The foam is skimmed off, and the treated water remains.

Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)

Carbon consists of natural adsorbent properties which, when treating water, can adsorb PFAS from the waste matrix leaving behind filtered water. The carbon used in this process eventually becomes contaminated. However, ReSolve deploys a carbon regeneration process for reuse.

Supercritical Water Oxidation (SCWO)

Supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) is a single-step wet oxidation process that transforms organic compounds into water, carbon dioxide and, depending on the waste undergoing treatment, an inert mineral solid residue. The process is highly effective in treating a variety of waste streams and contaminant concentrations.

Trucks treating soil contamination

PFAS can contaminate soil in several ways: through landfill leachate, contaminated wastewater, firefighting and the use of aqueous film forming foam (AFFF), air deposition, industrial sources and more. Fortunately, Clean Earth has a long history of treating contaminated soil and possesses a portfolio of treatment technologies.

Stabilization

In combining PFAS-contaminated soil with specifically developed additives, Clean Earth achieves a specific formulation that binds the contaminants to prevent leaching. This treated soil can then be beneficially reused. This solution specifically:

Converts contaminants into less soluble, mobile or toxic forms.

Results in no air quality issues.

Thermal Desorption

Our thermal desorption solution heats the soil in a rotating dryer to separate and remove the contaminant. This solution results in elimination and specifically:

Allows beneficial reuse of the remediated soil.

Clean Earth has multiple facilities with thermal desorption technology.

Clean Earth also possesses mobile units that can provide even more significant cost savings by eliminating transportation costs.
